Bong

A vertical water pipe is called a bong. Bongs have three main parts: a bowl for flower, a water-filled base to filter the smoke, and a down-stem that joins the bong and bowl for the filtering. Bongs produce a smoother, lighter hit than pipes because the water cools the smoke and filters out contaminants.
